The challenge
Eindhoven Airport wanted to re-model its airport charges, with the aim of:
- Stimulating airlines to use aircraft with lower noise and emission footprints as much as possible.
- Increasing utilisation of the airport during the low noise impact hours as much as possible.
- Reducing CO2 and NOx footprint.
- Reducing nuisance for the local community.
How RDC helped
Eindhoven Airport re-modelled its airport charges to include a component of time of day, noise, and engine emissions within the landing fee. RDC’s LOOP played a crucial role in this process as a source of accurate aircraft and engine data required for this analysis. AirportCharges enabled Eindhoven Airport to run scenarios of the changes to its airport charges as well as understand the market positioning of these changes against peer airports.
Quotes
LOOP played a crucial role, since most of the noise and emission data that we needed could be found in one place. It is organised well, accessible and is very up to date and accurate.
Re-modelling our charges would be very difficult and significantly more time consuming if we didn’t use AirportCharges and LOOP. It’s hard to say with complete certainty but I estimate that the process would have taken at least twice as long.
