London Heathrow airport, Europe's busiest airport, is set to miss out on around £2.3m worth of landing and take-off fees alone after a power outage shut the airport, according to RDC.

Data from our AirportCharges platform shows that the cancellation of around 1,330 scheduled flights today will cost the airport £2.3m in lost revenue from landing fees and charges. The airport would expect to earn a similar amount from passenger charges and expenditure in airport terminals.

The power outage, caused by a fire at an electrical substation, is set to close the airport until at least 23:59 today, with major disruption expected over the next few days.
