Willkommen to RDC’s Aviation Emissions Report for June 2024, looking at global passenger related aviation emissions with a focus on the 25 largest markets by total emissions.

As Germany hosts the UEFA Euro 2024 championships, it's an opportune time to look at passenger related aviation emissions from the country.

Highlights from this month’s report include:

  • Global passenger-related emissions in June 2024 were 67m tonnes
  • Emissions year to date are 380m tonnes, 18m tonnes below the same period in 2019
  • 10 of the 25 largest markets for emissions were up compared to June 2019 with Greece, Türkiye and Qatar showing the highest growth rates

Spotlight on Germany

  • Passenger-related emissions from airports in Germany were 1.86m tonnes in June 2024, 14% below 2019 levels
  • Germany is the 7th largest country for emissions in June 2024, 85% of these emissions are covered by a compliance programme
  • SunExpress (the joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines) had the lowest emissions per ASK out of the 10 largest airlines for emissions over the last 12 months
  • Frankfurt International Airport accounts for the highest emissions (9.9m tonnes of CO2 in the last 12 months), more than double that of Munich (the next largest)
