5 UK airports were in the top 25 for intra-European departing seat capacity in August 2011. In rank order they were: London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Dublin and Manchester.
Out of these only 2 increased their capacity versus August 2010, Gatwick (4.0%) and Manchester (4.9%). The other airports had reduced capacity ranging from -1.79% (LHR) to -5.72% (DUB) and -7.12% (STN).
This is by no means a reflection of the actual performance of these airports, but is an interesting story when compared against the other major European airports in the top 25 who all increased their departing seat capacity.

Today sees the release of the 2011 version of the Aviation CO2 Data Monitor, written by RDC Aviation in conjunction with Thomson Reuters Point Carbon.
The report builds on the expertise of the two businesses - Point Carbon's environmental experience, and RDC Aviation's airline and airport advisory and software systems - to provide readers with the most accurate and comprehensive analysis of the EU ETS' impact on aviation come 2012.
Using a bottom-up methodology to assess RTKs by airline in 2010 and forecast actual emissions in 2012 and onto 2020, the analysis will provide you with a strategic understanding of the relative market positions of individual airlines as well as the likely benchmark for allocating emissions allowances to airlines, demand from aviation for different compliance instruments and different policy outcomes.

Using our advanced fuel burn calculation methodology, we have estimated that American Airline's record breaking order for over 400 new aircraft will bring annual savings of US$460m.
The order, which is made up of 130 Airbus A320s, 100 Airbus A320Neos, 100 Boeing 737-800s and 80 A321s, could potentially save the airline 460,000 tonnes of fuel per year, and reduce the CO2 output by 1.5m tonnes per year. The annual cost saving is based on a jet fuel price of US$1000 per tonne.
The estimation is based on a like-for-like replacement of their narrowbody fleet on the existing route network.
Please contact us for more information about our calculation methodology.
