After looking at Sweden in our April 2025 aviation emissions report, this month we look at neighbouring Norway as our focus country.

Highlights from this month’s report include:

  • Global passenger-related emissions in May 2025 were 69m tonnes
  • 41% of these emissions were covered by a compliance programme
  • Looking at the 25 largest markets, Türkiye saw the highest growth with aviation emissions in May 2025 growing by +30% when compared to May 2019 levels, whereas Hong Kong saw the largest % decrease at -30%
  • Overall global aviation emissions January to May 2025 were 327m tonnes, 2m tonnes below January to May 2019 levels

Spotlight on Norway

  • Passenger-related emissions from airports in Norway were 0.20m tonnes in May 2025, -13% below 2019 levels
  • Norway ranked 46th largest country for emissions in May 2025
  • Sunclass Airlines had the lowest emissions per ASK out of the 10 largest airlines for emissions operating from Norway over the last 12 months
  • When looking at the 10 largest Norwegian airports for emissions over the last 12 months, airline operations from Oslo - Sandefjord Airport had the lowest emissions per ASK
